I think I just got booted off our family’s Amazing Race team. We (my wife Debbie, my son Brandon and myself) have just returned from a moving trip to Ottawa. Not a spiritually moving trip, a pack up your son’s apartment and move it into storage for the summer trip. I knew this was a tryout for the Amazing race because our team had to compete in Detours and Road Blocks – just like the race on TV. And, an Amazing Race team only has two people – so one of us had to go.
ROAD BLOCK – find a mini-storage place in Ottawa, without an address.
DETOUR – ride the freight elevator of death.
ROAD BLOCK – return the cable TV box.
I do not like driving when I have no idea where I am going and therefore failed miserably at the navigation challenges. I did however conquer the freight elevator of death.
Have fun without me on the Amazing Race.

Craig's Hill
I'm famous, I have hill named after me. It's not a mountain, but a significant change in elevation along a road where we cycle. My group was blazing up and over the hill this spring, while I chose to savour the hill. You can't truly enjoy a hill if you ride it too fast. And now the hill is mine.

This Dog is NOT Having a Seizure

Apparently not everyone knows what a pointing dog is. Teva is one of our vizslas (we have two) and he is a pointer. He loves to wander down to the court near our house and point at rabbits. This amuses him for hours. Recently while I was outside working on the car, Teva ventured to the court (as he usually does). A kind lady who was driving by noticed Teva, stopped and got out of her van. By the time I got there she had a very puzzled look on her face. She asked if he was my dog. I said yes. She asked me if he was ok. I said yes, he’s just pointing a rabbit. Oh, she said – he wouldn’t respond to anything I said, he’s just standing there, I thought he was having a seizure or something. I'm not sure she accepted my explanation.

Be the Bee
The bumble bee is my favourite insect. Scientists say that the bumble bee defies the laws of physics. How is it possible for the bumble bee to lift that huge body into the air and fly so gracefully from flower to flower with those stubby little wings? The bumble bee ignores the laws of physics and the critics who claim he cannot fly. And maybe he’s not so graceful, but he does fly. We should all be like the bumble bee. Ignore your critics, follow your dreams.
Suck in your gut, get on your road bike and pretend you’re Lance. It’s lunch time, I’m going for a bicycle ride - I'm going to fly.
Be the bumble bee.
